Window frames

I have been procrastinating about the window frames for some time now. I was secretly hoping a nice used set would drop into my lap but no such luck. Current frames had some corrosion and some bodyshop overspray.

My issue with refurbing just the frames was that I would never be able to get a perfect match with existing body trim which was all generally in ok condition. Only solution was to remove everything strip and refurb the lot so it all sits together nicely on the car. The stripping process was quite long winded – whatever Porsche used back in the day is tough as nails. I also wanted to deal with a few small areas of corrosion on the frames as this would be visible under the fresh powder coating.

Everything stripped and prepped ready for fresh coating, also double checked alignment of all the parts as some had got a bit crooked over time. During the prep I also softened a couple of the sharper corners on the parts as this is where the powder coating typically fails.

While stripping the various parts I was trying out a few new powder coaters with some test components  as my normal place is a bit industrial for such visible parts, last batch came out great so I think we have a winner (mixed bag of parts including gearbox brackets, coil mounts, bumper supports and rear decklid spacers).

Final list of all parts being done in the same batch are: window frames, outer door window trim, rear 1/4 window trim, door handles and triggers, door top hardware, front air grille and surround plus all visible parts from the rear spoiler mechanism – basically anything you can see on the car will be done in the same batch of satin black.

They came out pretty nice and all match perfectly.
