Known this car for many years and several previous owners, it really is a nice example of a 964 C2. Great colour, dark interior, sports seats and fantastic engine which seems to have a bit more punch than it should have makes for a enjoyable drive.
For the last few years the car had been in the care of OPC (I won’t say which one) for all servicing and repairs. Having inspected the car for the current owner I was aware of it’s condition before it arrived for the service, post purchase fettle and new MOT.
After a pre MOT checkover (fixed a few small issues) the car sailed through the test and got a clean ticket for another year – Result!
A rattling and badly adjusted sunroof was driving the owner nuts. Previous owner had added felt tape on every overlapping surface to ‘fix’ the rattle but it clearly made no difference whatsoever. After removing the sunroof interior panel it was obvious that one of the sliding brackets had lost its plastic insert, problem #1 identified and part ordered. Also spotted was the adjusters had been ‘adjusted’ at some point in the past and a stack of oversized nuts & washers were used instead of the correct knurled adjuster, problem #2 identified and part ordered. Once these 2 issues were resolved the sunroof was adjusted and is now working perfectly and most importantly – no rattle!
Once warm a few tappets sounded a bit tappety so a valve adjust seemed a sensible idea, found a full range of gaps from tight and loose. A few laps round the adjusting process and everything now fully in-spec and sounding smooth. Cleaned up valve covers, fresh gaskets, locknuts and crush washers got all the valve covers running nice and dry with new engine tine fitted to finish the job.
The paint on the car was pretty nice but was suffering from some dull hazing from day to day use and overnight car cover use. A light correction breathed new life into the paintwork and it really did look fantastic when the owner collected it.
Small jobs are sometimes the most satisfying especially when it involves removing fugly blue crimp on connectors! A badly fitted stereo with too much wire to tuck out of sight made the underside fo the dash look rather unsightly. Cut, trim, strip, solder, heat shrink and job-jobbed!
The alarm was equally as poorly installed with the LED light simply poked through the hole cut in the center console, it didn’t even stay where it should and kept falling down the hole. A correctly sized bezel was source and LED clipped securely into place – another small job but they all add up to make the car a nicer place to be.
